Pala Maneri Project

Government of Uttaranchal in 2003 allotted the Pala Maneri project to UJVNL for development and implementation keeping in view the energy requirements of the state in future. The project will be located upstream of the existing UJVNL’s project at Tiloth (Uttarkashi) on the river Bhagirathi.

UJVNL initiated the development works on the project in 2003 and appointed M/s Colenco Power Engineering Limited of Switzerland as Consultant for the preparation and updation of DPR for the Pala Maneri project (revised capacity of 480 MW) through International Competitive Bidding and the updated DPR has been completed in 2005. The clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forest has been obtained for the project. The project requires minimum displacement of inhabitants and has positive socio-economic impacts. M/s SMEC of Australia has been appointed as Design and Engineering Consultant for the project. The contracts for the project’s basic infrastructure work have been finalized and the work has started. The qualification process for the Civil Contractor for the execution of tunnel, dam and power house is under way and the civil work at site is expected to start in April 2006. 
The Bid documentation of the project is underway and all the major contracts are proposed to be finalized by 2006 to meet the ambitious implementation schedule. The project is expected to be completed by 2010. The project shall generate 1,880 Million Units of power and the project would go into meeting the galloping energy requirement of the state in view of the Industrialization in the state owing to an investor friendly atmosphere in the state of Uttaranchal.
