Dhakrani Power Plant (3x11.25 MW)

The Power Station is located on the downstream of the Dakpathar Barrage at a distance of 8 km on the power channel which takes off from the Barrage. The power plant was commissioned in the year 1965. The surface Power House comprising 3 units of 11.25 MW each with Kaplan turbines of 14300 HP output is located on the power channel and the same water feeds the Dhalipur power plant on the downstream of this power plant on the same power channel. The Power Station's Design Energy is 169 MU with a design head of 19.8 m.

The plant has shown significant improvements since 2000 and the generation is on the rise although 2004-05 was a poor hydrology year. The repairs to the power channel were also pending since a long time and could be taken up only after carrying out closure of the power cannel.

The generation has gone up substantially besides the plants downtime has reduced and the availability has improved significantly. The break down hours have reduced by 33.33% in 2004-05 over the previous year. The improvement have been possible due to the number of maintenance and safety measures under taken which were pending since long time. The repairs to the power channel were taken up in 2004-05 including strengthening of banks after a long time. The repair of underwater parts which had eroded over the years were responsible for improved performance UJVNL proposes to obtain a KfW line of Credit from Germany for undertaking major Modernisation and Uprating (M&U) initiatives in the power station estimated to cost Rs. 40 crore. The major M&U works proposed to be taken up are:-

i) Provision of Micro-processor based Governors.

ii) Provision of Static excitation equipments and On-line monitoring equipment.

iii) Provision of Trash Rack cleaning equipment at Dakpathar Barrage.

iv) Modernization of Communication, Test & Control, Protection & Instrumentation
switchyard equipment, hydro mechanical equipment etc.

v)
Desilting of Dakpathar Barrage for storage.

vi) Improvement in the efficiency of generators and Turbines.

The M&U works would increase the generation to 169 MU besides enhancing the life of plant and the works are expected to be completed by 2011.
