Hydropower development in Uttaranchal

The Govt. of Uttaranchal is committed for speedy development of Hydro Power projects with its vast potential by inviting all sectors of the developers to participate suitably and simultaneously in building programme and marketing of electricity.

The present recognized potential is 15031.56 MW constituted by 157 project sites.

Strategy for developing the untapped potential:

Goal
10000MW to be developed in 20 to 26 years ie. 400 to 500 MWs per year.

Strategies
  • Involve Proven developers for larger projects.
  • Offer projects with DPR/PFR to private sector for time-bound & committed development by the bidder.
  • Faciliatate development of six to eight projects simultaneously at any given stage by various developers.
  • Benefit (cost & time reduction) from competitive bench marking amongst developers working simultaneously.
  • Enhance the acknowledged human resource of Uttaranchal in the field of Hydro-Power.
  • Undertaking S&I and DPR preparation for potential sites in order of CEA ranking.
